It has been a long time dream of mine to own a white farmhouse. When we purchased our home 5 years ago I felt like I was almost there. We moved into our new farmhouse, it wasn’t the white I dreamed of but at least we were getting closer. 5 years ago I dreamed of painting my home but with being 8 months pregnant and trying to get used to our mortgage payment we decided to wait. One thing led to another and here we are 5 years later and I can finally say we have completed our dream white farmhouse exterior makeover!

I can’t say the experience was easy. I second guessed myself constantly, wondering if white was really the best choice for our home. I worried about all the leaves and pollen in our neighborhood and how that would look. I worried that the white would show all the imperfections of our 117 year old farmhouse. I worried because family and friends had strong opinions about other colors that would “fit” my house a bit better.

Needless to say I stuck with my gut and went with the white.

And I am so happy I did.

As the first coat of primer started to be sprayed on I could see the transformation.

Since we were trying to stick to our budget we decided to keep our wood door it’s natural color. We sanded it a bit and stained it a bit lighter. I think eventually we might try to go even lighter.

On the exterior and side door we decided to paint them black. We love the contrast of black and white and couldn’t have been happier with the choice. I love how it gives my white farmhouse exterior a little bit of a modern touch.

I decided on a light gray for the porch floor. That was kind of a pain because my original color was way too light so they had to repaint. I love this color. I am worried about the dirt that will show but overall I think I am going to be really happy with the brightness of it all. I already notice my living room seems brighter from the reflection off my porch.

I spray painted my planters black and added two big ferns.

I used the door mats I already owned.

And my fence got a fresh new coat.

I found a gorgeous new Farmhouse light fixture that fit perfectly.

And that is it. Simple and sweet and exactly what I wanted.

I love it!! 😍😍What color white did you use? We have a white painted brick house with black shutters. Love the combo too! I wish we could do a natural wood door like that too- ours is aluminum or something 🤷🏼‍♀️

It is extra white, so basically just out of the can :) We almost painted the front door and i’m so glad we didn’t. Maybe one day we will add shutters just like you!
