In my house we almost always go big for breakfast, especially when there is an excuse. What better way  to show our love for one another, than with waffles and heart-shaped sweets! We never get too involved in the complicated recipes, but we like to dress it up and make the breakfast fun. Not sharing all of our creations, but just some of the ones that were our favorites and came out good enough for pictures.

Here are some Valentine’s Day Breakfast ideas for kids

Heart-Shaped Waffle Pops

Ingredients:

Making the Valentine’s Waffles:

The Dash Mini Waffle Maker is super easy to use and gets hot within minutes. Turn it on to heat up while making the mix. Follow the instructions for mixing the waffle mix according to the box of the brand you choose. Carefully ladle in about a half a cup of mix into the maker until the heart mold is full then stop. The trick here is to let the bottom fill in and sit for a few seconds before closing the top. Then very gently close the lid and wait for the maker to click and the light to turn on. Remove the waffles with a fork and set aside.

Preparing the Candy Melts:

This is the easiest and the hardest part of any candy dipping recipe. If you are like me, you have a love hate relationship with candy melts. There are times when they go in the microwave for a minute and they seem to melt properly, easy peasy. There are more times when they seem like you can microwave them 30 seconds at a time for hours and they turn into putty and a complete mess. Here is all I can offer when using the microwave. Use a new, unopen package of melts only and follow the directions on the bag. You must place the microwave on 50% power and get the initial time just perfect to set the stage. That’s all I got for the microwave method. If that didn’t boost your confidence, there is still hope…Here’s a hack. Get a Candy Melt Pot.

Create the Valentine’s Breakfast Magic:

Now it’s time to place the lollipop sticks into the waffles, pressing them lightly into the bottom of each waffle. Lay out some parchment paper for the dipped waffles to cool. Now take each waffle and carefully dip them into the melted candy until the desired coverage is reached. Lay them on the parchment paper and immediately apply the sprinkles to create your own design. Let cool and you’re ready!

Valentine’s Breakfast Charcuterie Board

Ingredients:

  • Waffle Maker
  • Waffle Mix
  • Pink Food Coloring
  • Whipped Cream
  • Nutella
  • Bananas
  • Blackberries or Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Powered Sugar

Making the Breakfast Board Waffles:

Again, the Dash Mini Waffle Maker is very simple to use. Turn it on to heat up while making the mix. Follow the instructions for mixing the waffle mix according to the box of the brand you choose. As you are stirring the waffle mix start to add a few drops of the pink food coloring (or one or two red) until the shade you desire is reached. Carefully ladle in about a half a cup of mix into the maker until the heart mold is full then stop. The trick here is to let the bottom fill in and sit for a few seconds before closing the top. Then very gently close the lid and wait for the maker to click and the light to turn on. Remove the waffles with a fork and set them onto your board in a design of your choosing.

Time to Decorate for Valentine’s Breakfast:

This is the best part and the kids love to help. Use Nutella or Whipped Cream as the base, then add fruit cut into heart shapes to each waffle to complete your creation. Top with some powdered sugar or drizzle with some syrup and enjoy!
