For New Years we decided to escape to the mountains with family and avoid the hustle and bustle of our busy social calendar at home. After some research, and a desire to not drive a really far distance, we decided on the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia. The Blue Ridge Mountains with kids and the rest of our family was a perfect choice and here is why.
I had never been to Blue Ridge Mountains with kids, or really any mountains, so I just expected a little secluded cabin in the middle of nowhere but there was actually so much more.
The town of Blue Ridge was so cute, lots to do for families, delicious restaurants, and so much more. Yes our cabin was secluded but when we got a little stir crazy the town was just a 20 min drive away.
Blue Ridge Mountain BBQ
We really didn’t eat out very much since our place has a fully loaded kitchen but we did eat at the darling BBQ place close to town one day and it was delish. I would highly recommend the BBQ sandwich and Brunswick Stew. The kids meals here are amazing. Lots of selections, delish sides and they are huge so you may even be able to split.
Toccoa Riverside Seafood
We didn’t eat here but every time we drove by there was a full parking lot so I take that as a good sign… and that you probably need a reservation.
Hucks General Store
500 East Main Street, Blue Ridge. Fill your bag with “penny candy” at Huck’s General Store, a special place for kids – and adults too! See their website at: Huck’s General Store.
We were having a hard time finding a place to stay during the holiday week but somehow my family stumbled upon a local company called Southern Comfort Cabin Rentals and luckily they had a cabin that was just perfect. I can’t say enough good things about this place. It was spacious (even for 3 families), so incredibly clean, had some beautiful amenities including a hot tub, several fireplaces and a secret hideaway game room for the kids. Here is the link to the exact cabin we stayed in in case you want to try it out. This place is definitely a must when traveling to the blue ridge mountains with kids.
Downtown Blue Ridge at the Historic Depot. Ride the train alongside the beautiful Toccoa River. Fun for the whole family. Call 877-413-8724 or visit www.brscenic.com
Although its wasn’t the season for picking this is the place to come for blueberries, strawberries and of course apples. The store had the most delicious items but my favorite had to be the apple donuts. Definitely worth the visit even if its not picking season.
Meet Big Foot
The kids will love to learn how to hunt for Big Foot at Expedition Big Foot! This great new museum is located on Hwy 515 between Ellijay and Blue Ridge.
Discover treasure in the Blue Ridge Mountains at Aska Mining Company, Cohutta Cove Mini Golf or The Lilly Pad, all Gem Mining operations.
There are the cutest shops, breweries for the adults, and family fun with several sweet shops.
We really had the best time in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I cant wait to go back and visit with the family again.
